Lisbon-- "The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye," by New York-based Marie Losier, about the relationship between performance artist Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and his collaborator, Lady Jaye, won best film at the 8th IndieLisboa, which wrapped Sunday.Jean-Charles Hue's car-theft drama, "The Lord's BMW," got an honorary mention; Marian Crisan's Romanian immigration drama, "Morgen," was awarded the ?2,500 ($3,523) distribution prize; while Jean-Stephane Bron's foreclosure docu, "Cleveland vs. Wall Street" garnered the audience award and Amnesty Intl. prize.Best Portuguese film went to Jose Filipe Costa's docu, "Red Line," about Thomas Harlan's 1975 Portuguese revolution docu "Torre Bela."Total fest admissions were 36,000, 18% lower than last year's record 44,000 due to fewer screenings."Notwithstanding the gloom of Portugal's debt crisis, this year there was a surprising sense of joy and catharsis," according to fest co-director Nuno Sena.Due to a 33% funding cut, the Lisbon Screenings industry sidebar was axed, obliging the fest to network informally on behalf of Portuguese films.Few buyers attended, but there continued to be a high turnout of programmers and Sena claims that fests such as Locarno cherrypicked several films during the 11-day event.As a founding member of the online fest screening service, Festival Scope, Sena believes IndieLisboa now serves as an informal Portuguese film promotion agency on a year-round basis.
