More than half (52 percent) of the young women with corporate work experience say that little opportunity for advancement in the business world is very discouraging.

Both young men and young women believe that women still face a glass ceiling, but more women believe this than men (93 percent of women, compared to 80 percent of men).
Most men (59 percent) say they were interested in pursuing a career in business by high school, compared to just half of women (49 percent).

Twitter has just rolled out a nifty little feature. Now on anyone?s profile, when click on the ?Following? link, you?ll be able to see exactly how they see Twitter. In other words, you can see the same timeline of tweets that they see when they?re looking at their main feed.

It?s a cool feature that makes sense from a discovery standpoint. If you know I?m a power Twitter user that probably follows a bunch of good people, you can now quickly scan the tweets those people send out and see which ones you want to follow.

This is a similar concept to what News.me does for news stories. There, you look at a person?s profile and can see the shared links that they see in their Twitter stream. (It?s also worth noting that Twitter actually had this feature back in the day but shut it off a number of years ago.)

The old ?Following? option (a list of users another user follows) is still there under the ?People? tab. Here, you?ll also find a ?You Both Follow? area, which is nice.

It?s important to note that you won?t be able to see protected tweets from users you don?t follow, obviously. Also worth noting: the feature doesn?t show you exactly what I see since I see my own tweets, but Twitter removes those when you look my following stream (makes sense since I?m not actually following myself ? though I would, if I could).

The feature is still rolling out, so if you don?t see it just yet, don?t panic. Just wait longer. If you do see it, here?s my following stream.

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are more likely to increase physical activity on a day-to-day basis when exercises classes are combined with a confidence-building program, according to researchers from Michigan and Illinois. Those improvements, however, are only short-term and patients return to their original levels of activity once the confidence-building program ends, the study found.

The results of the study will be presented at the ATS 2011 International Conference in Denver.

Patients with COPD often have significant breathing problems and lead sedentary lives with little daily physical activity. Pulmonary rehabilitation programs can help COPD patients increase physical activity and improve overall fitness; however, most rehabilitation programs focus on moderate?to-vigorous exercise routines and few patients continue those exercises once rehabilitation ends.

?Recent evidence from other studies suggests that increasing physical activity and decreasing the amount of time spent in sedentary activities could have beneficial health effects that are separate from the effects of exercising, and we believe that increasing light physical activity may be a more realistic goal for people with health problems like COPD,? said study author Janet Larson, PhD, chair of the University of Michigan School of Nursing?s Division of Acute, Critical, and Long-term Care.

?Self-confidence-building programs, or self-efficacy-enhancing programs, have been widely used to promote adherence to exercise programs in the healthy population and they have had positive results in the short term, but long-term change in behavior is still challenging,?she added. ?We wanted to see if these programs might help improve patients? willingness to continue light physical activity once the exercise program ended.?

Overpowering fragrance has one public transportation user overwhelmed.

Recently, I was seated on a crowded bus to Manhattan from the New Paltz area, where I live. At one of the stops, as the procession of new riders snaked up the aisle, I tried to predict which of them would take the seat next to mine. I silently prayed: ?Please don?t let it be a stinker,? a strategy that sometimes works. Other times, not so much.

After craning his neck to see if there was another empty seat further back, a thirtyish man dressed in business attire parked himself next to me. In an instant, I was gasping for air.

It was a multifarious assault, a combination of body odor and antibacterial soap, with top notes of cologne. Apparently this man was a sweater; soap alone was no match for his stench. He thus found it necessary to douse himself in a musky fragrance, as if two olfactory wrongs made a right.

As my eyes started to tear and the back of my throat began to close, I stood up to assess whether there was a different seat I could relocate to. But all the seats were taken. I was stuck.

If it were up to me, no one would ever wear perfume, cologne or flowery powders ? the scourge of allergic people like me who just about go into anaphylactic shock within two blocks of a Sephora. I would never emerge from hugs with friends smelling like (and choking on) their favorite fragrance; my couch wouldn?t stink for days after they visited me.

I am not alone in this revulsion to strong personal smells: There is a burgeoning fragrance-free movement. According to a paper by Christy De Vader of Loyola College and Paxon Barker of the University of Maryland titled ?Fragrance in the Workplace is the New Second-Hand Smoke,? the fragrance-free movement stands to ?gain a quicker hold and garner more attention than did passive smoking,? and laws pertaining to safety regulations can be applied to limit fragrance exposure in the workplace.

?Men and women. . . . contribute their own personal ?chemical soup? to the general ?chemical soup? that the general public breathes,? they write. ?This use of personal care products containing synthetic fragrance creates a ?bubble? of toxins for the wearer that continues to emit toxins hours after the product was initially used.?

I was trapped in just such a bubble that day on the bus. I tried turning my head sharply to suck in the air from the row behind me through the small space between the chair back and the glass. But the man?s various smells followed my nose, enveloping me whole. Ultimately, I had no choice but to breathe through my mouth.

An hour-and-a-half later, I emerged from the bus into the Port Authority terminal lightheaded from mouth-breathing and in the throes of an allergy attack. To add insult to injury, my hair and clothes held on to his scents all night.

It?s hard to think of anything more selfish and rude. Allergies aside, what makes a person think anyone else would want to smell his or her perfume any more than we?d want to hear the music blaring in his or her headphones? Or breathe in cigarette smoke? If we can prohibit people from stinking up public parks with second-hand smoke, as Mayor Bloomberg would like to do, why not also prohibit them from also filling our lungs with the chemical toxins found in synthetic fragrances?

While I realize that a comprehensive fragrance ban would be ridiculous to enact and try to enforce, is it too much to ask that people forgo needlessly generous splashes of Acqua Di Gio and Euphoria?

Heavy fragrances are equivalent to air pollution, especially in public spaces. So how about a little consideration? That?d be a breath of fresh air.

He thought my mum was trying to bring his name to disrepute by giving him such advice. ?What do you take me for?, he angrily voiced out. ?Do you think you are better than me? After all, what do you use your money for? Don?t you just waste your money buying lands and building houses??, he ignorantly teased my mum but at the same time very infuriated.

All the other neighbors who were watching on busted into laughter at such level of ignorance exhibited by this drunkard. You see, he did not know the value and real wealth in real estate. To him, spending money on liabilities was more valuable than buying real assets like real estate.

Real estate is the real wealth. Most rich people all over the world know that, no matter what they invest in, their primarily wealth determiner lies in the extent of their real estate wealth. For example, Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonald?s, though known throughout the world to be in the most successful hamburger business, is actually in the real estate business. Today, McDonald?s is the largest single owner of real estate in the world and even owns some of the most priceless intersections and street corners in America, as well as in other parts of the world. What a great wealth he possesses!

To the rich, land and property is the substantiation or the validation of their wealth. The wealth of a rich person?s real estate defines his value. Real estate is very important because it is the only form of earthly wealth that never loses its value. Real wealth is in the land and properties. It is therefore not surprising that it is called ?real? estate. Most other wealth are not ?real? wealth because they are wiped out by economic depression or natural disaster. No matter what the economy does, land never loses its value. The longer you own it, the more it increases its value. It actually grows in price even during difficult times. Real estate is the actual asset that ensures opulence for yourself and your future generations. Everything else fades away too easily. It only takes one collision, and your expensive Mercedes Benz car loses its value.

Rich people know that when they own the land they really control great wealth. A rich person is as rich as his real estate. Land, since time in memorial has been used to measure real wealth and blessing. It is those who are smart that goes after land. Many people think that it is only extremely rich people who build houses. I advise people who want to prosper to build houses. If you want to be a millionaire, I will say to you, ?build a house and never stop having building projects for the rest of your life.? If you already have a personal home, I will advice you to build another home.

There are two groups of people in this world. The first group accumulates this wealth wisely by building houses and investing in real estate. This group is often not outwardly remarkable. The other group squanders the wealth, basically having a good time. These people impress everyone by driving expensive cars, flying all over the world, and wearing designer clothing. With time, it is the home builders who often end up truly wealthy and capable of giving effortlessly to any worthy project.

However, the ?the squanders of wealth? who were not prepared to sacrifice to build often end up broke and devastated in life. Real estate or property is a type of investment. It appreciates in value everyday. It represents the accumulation of all your wealth.Money is not the essential element to building a house. The key to building a house is wisdom ? practical wisdom.

Are you a builder or a user? Builders put up and construct things in their lifetime. Users simply enjoy the facilities that have been created by others. The users pay the builders to enjoy their works. Thus, the users make the builders rich, very rich. Do not build apartments in your stomach! There is more to life than eating, drinking and making merry, for you may not die tomorrow! Do you know that you may live for many years and need the accumulated wealth of your better years? A wise person sacrifices to build something!
