In our constructor we create our System.Speech.Sythensis.SpeechSynthesizer, set a voice, default speed and volume for it.? We also instantiate our SoundPlayer which is going to actually play the sound file our synthesizer um? synthesizes.

The key to this class is that it inherits from System.IO.TextWriter, this is the only type that we can set standard out to.? Our class must implement the Encoding:Get method, which if anyone actually called would cause all kinds of problems, so we throw an Exception if it is actually called. In the constructor we take a snapshot of the original standard out, so we will still be able to print to text.

Otherwise most of the work happens in our WriteLine overload.? First we print out to the original standard out, otherwise our command prompt would become audio only!? Next we create our memory stream that our synthesizer is going to record to.? We then render whatever speech was printed via a Console.WriteLine() call, set it as the active stream and play it using our soundPlayer.? We using PlaySync() to make sure it finished playing before continuing execution.? You could use Play(), but it would only render the most recent sentence if a couple lines where written at once.?? Also note, we only overrode WriteLine(string), so if you do Console.Write, Console.WriteLine(char[]) or any other version, nothing will happen.? If you want to support more versions, you need to implement.

?Loading ... Samsung has a projector phone or two in its portofolio, but what about tablets with projectors? That hasn?t been done by any company as far as I know, so the market is open. Laura Hong and Charles de Belizal envisioned a projector tablet and called it the Samsung Galaxy One, that you can see below.

This device measures 14mm in thickness, packs a projector, Windows 8, an aluminum body and brushed aluminum feet. The Galaxy One has two ?feet?, that help prop it up in media viewing position if you want to watch movies and also prepare it to project data during a business meeting, for example. It has a great projection angle and the projector is incorporated right above the camera sensor, that also includes a flash. A stylus is also in the mix and the Metro UI seems to fit right in with this Samsung tablet concept.

The virtual QWERTY keyboard also looks comfortable and I guess it?s part of the design, since it doesn?t resemble the standard input method in Windows 8. From what I can see here, the projector can rotate depending on the position you want it to assume, while using the tablet to show stuff at a meeting. The stylus is small and discrete and also reminds me of the S Pen a bit. Since this is a Windows 8 machine I imagine it would cost quite a bit? how much would you spend for it?

Activists say shelling kills 24 in Syrian city

BEIRUT (AP) ? Activists say troops have shelled several neighborhoods in a central Syrian city, killing at least 24.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees say the bombardment of Hama lasted until the early hours of Monday.

The LCC said 24 were killed while the Observatory put the death toll at 25, including eight children and five women.

Amateur videos showed a makeshift hospital were several people lay on the floor either dead or wounded.

The city witnessed clashes Sunday between troops and rebels.

In 1982, President Bashar Assad's father and predecessor, Hafez, ordered the military to quell a rebellion by the Muslim Brotherhood movement in Hama in an assault that killed between 10,000 and 25,000 people.

BEIRUT (AP) ? Syria on Sunday strongly denied allegations that its forces killed scores of people ? including women and children ? in one of the deadliest days of the country's uprising, but the U.N. Security Council after an emergency session condemned government forces for shelling residential areas.

The killing of more than 100 people in the west-central area of Houla on Friday brought widespread international criticism of the regime of President Bashar Assad, although differences emerged from world powers over whether his forces were exclusively to blame.

The Security Council issued a press statement Sunday that "condemned in the strongest possible terms" the killings in Houla. It blamed Syrian forces for artillery and tank shelling of residential areas. It also condemned the killings of civilians "by shooting at close range and by severe physical abuse," but avoided saying who was responsible for these attacks.

The council's statement said the "outrageous use of force" against civilians violated international law and Syrian government commitments under previous U.N. resolutions to stop all violence, including the use of heavy weapons in populated areas. It said "those responsible for acts of violence must be held accountable," and asked the U.N. observer mission in Syria and Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to investigate the attacks and report back to the council.

Britain and France had proposed issuing a press statement condemning the attack on civilians and pointing the finger at the Syrian government for Friday's massacre. But Russia called for an emergency council meeting saying it first wanted a briefing by Gen. Robert Mood, the head of the unarmed U.N. observer mission.

The massacre in Houla on Friday cast fresh doubts on the ability of an international peace plan put forward by U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan to end Syria's 14-month-old crisis.

The brutality of the killings became clear in amateur videos posted online that showed scores of bodies, many of them young children, in neat rows and covered with blood and deep wounds. A later video showed the bodies, wrapped in white sheets, being placed in a sprawling mass grave.

Mood told the Security Council that U.N. observers at the scene now estimate 108 people were killed in Houla, U.N. peacekeeping chief Herve Ladsous told reporters outside the council chamber. The U.N. counted 49 children and 34 women among the dead.

Activists from the Houla area said the army pounded the villages with artillery and clashed with local rebels after protests Friday. Some activists said pro-regime thugs later stormed the area, doing the bulk of the killing by gunning down men in the streets and stabbing women and children in their homes.

The Syrian government rejected that narrative Sunday, painting a vastly different picture.

Speaking to reporters in Damascus, Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi said Syrian security forces were in their local bases Friday when they were attacked by "hundreds of heavily armed gunmen" firing mortars, heavy machine guns and anti-tank missiles, staring a nine-hour battle that killed three soldiers and wounded 16.

The soldiers fought back, but didn't leave their bases, he said.

"No Syrian tank or artillery entered this place where the massacres were committed," he said. "The security forces did not leave their places because they were in a state of self-defense."

He blamed the gunmen for what he called a "terrorist massacre" in Houla and accused the media, Western officials and others of spinning a "tsunami of lies" to justify foreign intervention in Syria.

Makdissi did not provide videos or other evidence to support his version of events, nor did he give a death toll. He said the government had formed a committee to investigate and share its findings with Annan, who is due to visit Damascus in the coming days.

Throughout the uprising, the government has deployed snipers, troops and thugs to quash protests and shelled opposition areas.

A video released by the U.N. team in Syria on Sunday showed observers in Houla the day after the attack, meeting with local rebels and watching residents collect more bodies for burial. It also showed two destroyed armored personnel carriers ? suggesting that local rebels put up more of a fight than the activists acknowledged.

In a letter to the Security Council, Ban said villages in the Houla area have been outside government control but surrounded by a heavy Syrian military presence.

When U.N. observers visited the area on Saturday, Ban said they saw 85 corpses in a mosque in Taldou and "observed shotgun wounds and wounds consistent with artillery fire." He said "the patrol also saw artillery and tank shells, as well as fresh tank tracks" and observed that "many buildings had been destroyed by heavy weapons."

At U.N. headquarters, Russia's deputy U.N. ambassador Alexander Pankin told reporters as he headed into the closed-door Security Council meeting that "there is substantial ground to believe that the majority of those who were killed were either slashed, cut by knives, or executed at point-blank distance."

"We have to establish whether it was Syrian authorities ... before we agree on something," he said.

A press statement is weaker than a presidential statement, which becomes part of the council record, or a legally binding U.N. resolution, but it must be approved by all 15 members and therefore reflects strong Security Council backing.

Annan's peace plan for Syria, sponsored by the U.N. and the Arab League, is one of the few points of agreement among world powers about Syria's crisis, which began in March 2011 with protests calling for political change. As the government violently cracked down on the uprising, many in the opposition took up arms to defend themselves and attack government troops.

The U.N. put the death toll weeks ago at more than 9,000. Hundreds more have been killed since then.

Daily violence has marred the plan since a cease-fire was supposed to begin April 12. The Houla attack made Friday the deadliest day since the truce was announced, and has cast a shadow over Annan's visit.

In another defiant move, Syria on Sunday denied permission for Annan's deputy to travel to Damascus with his boss, a senior Arab League official said. The rejection of former Palestinian Foreign Minister Nasser al-Kidwa was intended as a slap to the Arab League, which suspended Syria's membership and approved sanctions against it last year.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. Annan's spokesman declined to comment.

The Houla attacks caused outrage among American and international officials that Makdissi's comments Sunday failed to assuage.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said he would summon Syria's most senior diplomat in the U.K. on Monday so the Foreign Office could "make clear our condemnation of the Syrian regime's actions."

Kuwait, which currently heads the 22-member Arab League, called for an Arab ministerial meeting to "take steps to put an end to the oppressive practices against the Syrian people."

Switzerland's Foreign Ministry urged that an international inquiry be convened, saying the killings "could constitute a war crime."

In Paris, the head of the exile Syrian National Council also condemned the killings.

"The kids of Houla are the kids of all of Syria," Burhan Ghalioun told reporters. "Killing the kids of Houla is like killing the kids of all of Syria."

Anti-regime activists scoffed at the government's version of events. One Houla activist said via Skype that the area had at most 300 fighters, but that none had more than rifles and that they often lacked ammunition.

"If we had anti-tank missiles, there would be no tanks left in the area," said Mohammed, declining to give his full name for fear of retribution.

Activists reported shelling, gunfire and arrest raids in opposition areas throughout the country Sunday as well as clashes between regime forces and rebels in a number of areas. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said security forces killed at least 14 civilians, while rebels killed nine soldiers.

Activist claims could not be independently verified. The Syrian government bars most media from operating in the country.

Annan's plan calls for eventual talks between all sides on a political solution to the crisis.

The U.S. hopes Russia can use its influence with Damascus to press for a political transition similar to that seen in Yemen. In February, longtime Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh passed power to his deputy in exchange for immunity from prosecution.

U.S. officials say Russia does not oppose a political transition in Syria in theory, but has not agreed to specific terms.

It?s a home within a home ? and it could be coming soon to a home near you.

Builders across the country are revamping home designs to meet the needs of a growing number of Americans who are now living with extended family.

The number of so-called multi-generational households ? where adults are living with their elderly parents or grown children ? has jumped since the Great Recession forced Americans to rethink living on their own. Demographic experts say it?s poised to rise further as baby boomers age, so-called ?boomerang kids? walloped by the weak job market stay home longer and ethnic groups such as Asians and Hispanics, who are more likely to live with extended family, continue to grow.

The housing industry is trying to keep up with the changes by adding self-contained suites to single-family homes from North Carolina to California to enable families to stay close while retaining a greater degree of independence.

?It?s not the nuclear family, the American dream family that we see all the time,? said Jerry Messman, a partner in national design firm BSB Design. ?The builders are starting to respond to it.?

After World War II, Americans were encouraged to move out of their parents? house when they reached adulthood and achieve independence at an earlier age. Over the next few decades, young families ventured out to live on their own, separately from their parents, in traditional single-family homes.

Since 1980, however, the number of families living in multi-generational households has steadily climbed, buoyed by a wave of immigration and delayed marriages. After the onset of the Great Recession, the number jumped even higher ? rising 10.5 percent in a two-year period so that nearly 17 percent of Americans lived in multi-generational households by 2009, according to a report by the Pew Research Center.

During the last year, builders and home designers have started to respond to the trend by rolling out layouts for single-family houses that include a semi-independent suite with a separate entry, bathroom and kitchenette. Some suites even include their own laundry areas and outdoor patios for additional privacy, though they maintain a connection to the main house through an inside door.

Reanna Cox, 33, bought a new home earlier this year in San Bernardino with a suite that connects to her kitchen through a hallway. Initially, Cox and her husband planned to have his aging parents live there. But when her sister lost her job, Cox invited her to move into the suite with her young daughter.

?It?s somewhere they can live to get themselves back on their feet,? said Cox, who moved to the tan, five bedroom house with caramel-colored shutters to shorten her daily commute.

Lennar Corp., based in Miami, is offering 3,400 square-foot homes that include a roughly 700 square-foot suite in Las Vegas. Standard Pacific Homes of Irvine is offering a self-contained ?casita? attached to the main house as an option on its new designs.

Both companies say the plans have been popular since they were rolled out last year.

But it isn?t clear what share of homebuyers will buy these homes ? especially since immigrant families from Asia and Latin America who have traditionally lived together have long found ways to do so without this option, said Gary Painter, research director at the University of Southern California?s Lusk Center for Real Estate.

?There certainly is a demand to be close,? Painter said. ?We just don?t have enough in the market to make a definitive statement about whether this sort of kitchenette living or guest house nearby will become a next wave.?

But in higher-end markets, Painter said it?s more likely such plans could prosper.

Lennar is offering its so-called ?Next Gen? designs in states ranging from California to Texas to Florida. Sales of these multi-generational homes account for a very small percentage of the company?s sales but are growing quickly, said Jeff Roos, Lennar?s western regional president.

Multi-generational homes are expected to account for roughly 30 to 40 percent of new homes in communities where the floor plans are being offered, Roos said.

The Aliso Viejo-based New Home Company is rolling out a range of options for multi-generational living in the affluent Orange County suburb of Irvine, where the Asian population has nearly doubled in the last decade.

The company?s floor plans include a self-contained suite attached to a main house or separate homes that share a common yard and pool. The company has reached out to Asian buyers by offering touches such as specially designed wok kitchens and dedicated music rooms, but the homes are also drawing buyers from other ethnic backgrounds, said Joan Marcus-Colvin, the company?s vice president of sales, marketing and design.

Builders say the tendency to live together longer comes down to a matter of economics as families of varied ethnic backgrounds cope with the wake of the recession and the needs of aging parents, who may have seen their retirement savings depleted in the downturn. ? AP

? If there is a more baffling subject that needs to be taught in schools is what leasing is available to Schools and colleges. Successive governments have changed legislation and what was possible to finance and lease ten years ago is now different. Not to say its still confusing as different local authorities still have different policies towards finance and leasing. Often these views differ to that of the Department of Education.

Schools that have Academy status have total choice and reality is they will not be constrained and will have the benefits that a business user has. Otherwise there are two clear types of agreement..

Operating Lease- this is increasingly popular for lease companies to offer as they have been fearful of government legislation changes. These are not the most cost effective agreements but are theose of choice. Foe schools looking for leasing this option should try to be avoided unless there is good reason. Essentally an operating lease is the pure rental of the PC?s or Apple Macs ? wherbyat the end of the three or four year lease period the equipment is returned ? and the lease funder sells it as there profit on the finance. So you can lease ?1000 of equipment and repay ?1000 over three years which sounds good but then you have to return it at the end. If you consider an Apple Mac is worth circa ?300 after 3 years then you can see the true cost of the option.

A Finance Lease or Lease Rental agreement has a pre agreed option to own at the end of the lease for a nominal figure. Since schools are not technically allowed to borrow money this is where it has fallen down recently. As it could be seen as financing. This is NOT what the DoE says but is what some local authorities are wishing to interpret. This option is favoured by business users as it is overall cheaper and the path to ownership is clearer.
